Garey is 9-1 against Pomona since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Garey Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Pomona Red Devils at 4:45 p.m. One thing working in Garey's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last seven matchups.
In what's become a running theme this season, Garey gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They claimed a resounding 71-6 victory over Bassett on the road. That looming 71-6 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Garey yet this season.
Garey can attribute much of their success to Alyssa Herrera, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds, and Armani Owens, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 12 rebounds. Owens is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah (AJ) Jones, who scored six points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Pomona, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 60-42 loss to Edgewood on Wednesday.
Garey pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.6 points per game. As for Pomona, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Everything came up roses for Garey against Pomona when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 67-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Garey since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
