After a string of three wins, the Imperial Tigers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Calexico by a score of 34-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Imperial has suffered yet this season.
Imperial lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Davan Heraz, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Nayeli Cardona, who scored 14 points along with six steals and two blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Calexico to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ivanna Camarillo, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Mia Borboa was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Imperial now has a losing record at 10-11. As for Calexico, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Imperial's road trip will continue as they head out to face Mater Dei Catholic at 12:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Mater Dei Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Calexico, they will be playing in front of their home fans against El Cajon Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
