The Calaveras Red Hawks and the Vacaville Bulldogs will round out the year against one another at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Calaveras has four straight victories, Vacaville has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Calaveras has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 20 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 56-36 margin over El Dorado. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 14 more assists than your opponent, as Calaveras did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Calaveras to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ginger Scheidt, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Scheidt has scored at least 25% of Calaveras' points. Izzy Tapia was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Vacaville came up short against Pioneer on Tuesday and fell 61-50. While losing is never fun, Vacaville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 878th, while Pioneer is ranked 234th).
Despite their loss, Vacaville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kelsey Collins, who scored 17 points, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Lopez, who scored 13 points.
Calaveras' victory bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Vacaville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Calaveras was able to grind out a solid victory over Vacaville in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 54-41. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Vacaville's Brynlie Headrick, who scored 21 points. Now that she won't be playing on Wednesday, will it be that much easier for Calaveras to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
