The Mt. Shasta Bears's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their 19th straight loss. They took a serious blow against Weed, falling 49-21. Mt. Shasta has not had much luck with Weed recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Mt. Shasta had strong showings from Emily Pigoni, who scored four points along with six rebounds and two steals, and Savannah Henson, who scored four points along with five rebounds and four steals.
It was another big night for Renaissance Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds for Weed. Johnson hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for 15 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Alayja Oliver, who scored 11 points.
Mt. Shasta's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-23. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.3 points per game. As for Weed, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.
Mt. Shasta does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Weed, they will be playing at home against Plumas Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Plumas Charter will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Weed surely won't give up without a fight.
