The Penn Cambria Panthers kicked off their season on the road on Friday and hit a couple of potholes. They were beaten by Portage 58-30. Penn Cambria lost against Portage in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 55-41 score last time.
Penn Cambria's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Meghan Andersen, who scored 9 points along with 6 steals, and Addie Hite who scored 6 points along with 13 rebounds and 3 steals.
Portage can attribute much of their success to Cami Burkett, who scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Another player making a difference was Alex Chobany, who scored 15 points along with 4 steals.
Penn Cambria's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Portage, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Penn Cambria will square off against Somerset at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Portage won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Central Cambria at 7:30 p.m. on December 2nd.
