The Newark Memorial Cougars have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Overfelt Royals at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Overfelt took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Newark Memorial, who comes in off a win.
Newark Memorial scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Monday. They claimed a resounding 74-25 win over Mt. Pleasant at home. Considering Newark Memorial has won three matches by more than 33 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Angelina Baca and Sydney Scott were among the main playmakers for Newark Memorial as the former scored 17 points and the latter scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Baca scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lavina Sanft, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Overfelt, who are still winless after their sixth matchup. They were outmatched by Leigh on the road and fell 71-16. While losing is never fun, Overfelt can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1149th, while Leigh is ranked 526th).
Newark Memorial's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-3. As for Overfelt, they bumped their record down to 0-6 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Newark Memorial against Overfelt in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 77-19 victory. With Newark Memorial ahead 41-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
