The Holtville Vikings managed to keep up with the Vincent Memorial Scots until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Holtville was beaten by Vincent Memorial 61-32. Holtville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Vincent Memorial apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jasmine Garewal, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds. Garewal scored a full 37.5% of Holtville's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Vanessa Gonzalez, who scored 5 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vincent Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dafne Borunda, who scored 20 points along with 7 assists and 3 steals. The matchup was Borunda's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Paola Longoria was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds.
Holtville's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Vincent Memorial, they pushed their record up to 2-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Holtville will face off against San Diego at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully San Diego focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Thursday. As for Vincent Memorial, they will be playing at home against Palo Verde Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
