Buchholz is a perfect 10-0 against Gainesville since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bobcats will host the Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. Buchholz is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Buchholz made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Providence School, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Bobcats put the hurt on the Stallions with a sharp 11-1 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 11 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Buchholz let Drew Almond and Cedaris Smith run wild. Almond scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Smith scored a run while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave Almond a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zac Brown, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Gainesville was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They came up short against Vanguard, falling 13-1.
Gainesville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jackson Dugan, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Buchholz pushed their record up to 23-1 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gainesville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Buchholz has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Gainesville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Buchholz's way against Gainesville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Buchholz made off with a 15-1 win. Will the Bobcats repeat their success, or do the Hurricanes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
