Pomona extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 1-6. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pueblo South Colts. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Colts apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
Abby Stewart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Dahlia Valdez made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Those hits were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ariana Escareno, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
As for Pueblo South, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games.
On Pueblo South's side, Bella Sniff made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Sniff a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kendall Decker, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Victoria 'Tori' White was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pomona will challenge Conifer at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Panthers' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Pueblo South, they will take on Pueblo East at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Colts' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 10.4 runs per game this season.
