Lafayette Christian and Flint River Academy are an even 4-4 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Cougars will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lafayette Christian 2.3, Flint River Academy 2.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Lafayette Christian is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Creekside Christian Academy just ended the team's ten-game winning streak last Thursday. They fell just short of Creekside Christian Academy by a score of 2-1. The contest marked Lafayette Christian's lowest-scoring match so far this season.
Lafayette Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Childree, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Flint River Academy got the win against Windsor Academy on Friday by a conclusive 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Ethan Newman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Jones, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. J. Stanton Pritchard was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Flint River Academy's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lafayette Christian, their defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 14-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lafayette Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Flint River Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lafayette Christian suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Flint River Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
