The Valley Center Jaguars won the last time they faced the Escondido Cougars, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Valley Center pulled ahead with a 29-28 photo finish over the Cougars.
Nashayla Chaipos continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 11 points along with seven steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Pojas, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Escondido saw an underclassman step up: Anaya McGlory dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. McGlory hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games.
Even though they lost, Escondido smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Center only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Valley Center is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-12 record this season. As for Escondido, they dropped their record down to 14-11 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley Center will take on the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Fallbrook will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for Escondido, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. San Pasqual has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.
