The Pittsburg Pirates suffered their biggest loss since November 18, 2023 on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 61-26 loss at the hands of Heritage. Pittsburg was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-16.
When it comes to explaining why Pittsburg lost, one person who can't be blamed is Malia Fonologoua. Despite the final result, she scored five points along with three blocks and two steals.
Leading Heritage to victory were Kendall Mcclure and Ze'ni Patterson. Mcclure scored 11 points, while Patterson scored 13 points along with two steals. Patterson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Abby Livermore was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Pittsburg's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-11. As for Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season.
Pittsburg will be playing in front of their home fans against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Liberty presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Pittsburg in California (Liberty is ranked 214th, while Pittsburg is ranked 689th). Heritage's road trip will continue as they head out to face Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Freedom focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Tuesday.
