If the Santee Warriors were riding high off their 78-15 takedown of the St. Edward Beavers two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Santee was dealt a 80-33 loss at the hands of St. Mary on Tuesday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Santee in their matchups with St. Mary's: they've now lost five in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead St. Mary's to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alissa Brabec, who scored 24 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle Barlow, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Santee has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season. As for St. Mary's, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-2.
Santee on the road again on Thursday and play against Marty Indian at 4:30 p.m. on January 18th. Marty Indian presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Santee in their respective states (Marty Indian is ranked 85th in South Dakota, while Santee is ranked 231st in Nebraska). As for St. Mary's, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Winside. Winside has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12.
