In other pitching news, CRISTIAN AYALA looked comfortable as he pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (he also didn't allow any walks). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive pitching appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on LIAM LEE, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was LUIS SOSA, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Classical Academy sidestepped Mt. Carmel for a 7-6 victory. The win was just what Classical Academy needed coming off of a 14-2 loss in their prior game.
Classical Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Travis Perry, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with a stolen base and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Hoff, who went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Bonita Vista's victory bumped their record up to 7-2-1. As for Classical Academy, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both teams have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bonita Vista has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Classical Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.6 per game. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
