The Poway Titans typically have all the answers at home, but on Wednesday the Mission Hills Grizzlies proved too difficult a challenge. They took down the Titans 71-55. Given Mission Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Poway is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kyara Walter was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maria Gorbushin, who scored ten points along with five assists and three steals.
Mission Hills is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Poway, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mission Hills on the road again on Friday and play against San Marcos at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. As for Poway, they will square off against Rancho Bernardo at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
