The Mahanoy Area Golden Bears entered their tilt with the Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mahanoy Area enjoyed a cozy 35-17 win over Shenandoah Valley on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mahanoy Area also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
It was another big night for Colm McGroarty, who rushed for 241 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry. McGroarty's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Quick, who rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Loss or not, Shenandoah Valley got some senior leadership from Ben Dempster who rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown and Nick Ryan who rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Mahanoy Area's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.0 points per game. As for Shenandoah Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mahanoy Area will square off against Pen Argyl at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Shenandoah Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Salisbury Township at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Salisbury Township is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
