Cole Mason made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Thacher: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Sam Lust and Henry Molfino did most of the damage at the plate: Lust went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Molfino got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Molfino has posted since back in April of 2024. Miles Maxwell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Thacher always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Grace was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Foothill Tech.
Daniel Morlett was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Borgstrom, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
The victory got Thacher back to even at 6-6. As for Grace, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-7-2.
