The Fossil Ridge SaberCats will square off against the Roosevelt Roughriders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Fossil Ridge comes in on four and Roosevelt on three.
Roosevelt's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Fossil Ridge hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The SaberCats never let Rock Canyon get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the SaberCats, who have now won ten matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Brek Benedict looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Fossil Ridge got a massive performance out of Brady Bradford, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave Bradford a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mason Griffin, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Fossil Ridge hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rock Canyon struck out seven times.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt hadn't done well against Thompson Valley recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Roughriders had just enough and edged out the Eagles 6-4.
The team relied heavily on Luke Unruh, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
Fossil Ridge's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Roosevelt, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fossil Ridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. However, it's not like Roosevelt struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
