The Truckee Wolverines and the South Tahoe Vikings will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Truckee will be strutting in after a victory while South Tahoe will be coming in after a loss.
Truckee's five-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Hug 32-29. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Truckee has posted yet this season.
Truckee relied on the efforts of Emma Jones, who scored 11 points, and Sophia Killian, who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Killian has scored all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, South Tahoe's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 61-49 to North Valleys.
South Tahoe's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Campbell Mathews, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 15 rebounds, and Ava Wolfe who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Mathews hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for seven straight games.
Truckee's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-8. As for South Tahoe, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8.
Things could have been worse for Truckee, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-38 loss to South Tahoe in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Truckee avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
