Winning is just a little bit easier when you drain 12 more threes than your opponent, a fact the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers proved on Saturday. They walked away with a 66-53 win over Coolidge. With that victory, Georgetown Day brought their scoring average up to 55.5 points per game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Georgetown Day to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madisyn Moore, who scored 22 points along with 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Moore has scored at least 25% of Georgetown Day's points. Evelyn Chen was another key contributor, going 6 for 8 from beyond the arc en route to 18 points and 0 assists.
Despite the loss, Coolidge saw an underclassman step up: Josslyn Derricott dropped a double-double on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Derricott scored a full 35.8% of Coolidge's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaylyn Derricott, who scored 7 points along with 9 rebounds.
The victory got Georgetown Day back to even at 1-1. As for Coolidge, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.
Georgetown Day will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes at 5:45 p.m. Coolidge's road trip will continue as they head out to face Forest Park.
