The Venture Academy Mustangs's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Turlock Christian Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Turlock Christian took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Venture Academy, who comes in off a win.
Even though Venture Academy has not done well against the Falcons recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Venture Academy came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 46-34.
Venture Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jz Lawrence out in front who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 steals. Lawrence is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimora Crawford, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Turlock Christian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their tenth straight defeat. The contest between them and Elliot Christian wasn't particularly close, with Turlock Christian falling 49-31. Turlock Christian has not had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Turlock Christian got a solid performance out of Faith Hayes, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 45.2% of Turlock Christian's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Christiana Eivaz, who scored five points.
Turlock Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Elliot Christian racked up 15 assists.
Venture Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Turlock Christian, they dropped their record down to 5-19 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home.
Tuesday's contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Venture Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 47.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Turlock Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 26.5 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Venture Academy against the Eagles in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 54-23 victory. With Venture Academy ahead 31-9 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
