The Big Sandy Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a hard 55-36 fall against Hawkins. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Big Sandy has scored all season.
Big Sandy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Malijah Francis, who scored 11 points along with two steals. Francis hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Trey Coleman, who scored nine points.
Leading Hawkins to victory were Paul Smith and Derek Hollman. Smith scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks, while Hollman dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Smith has scored all season. Larry Moungle was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Big Sandy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 13 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Hawkins, the win was the 19th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-1.
Big Sandy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Linden-Kildare at 2:30 p.m. on January 20th. Linden-Kildare comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 18 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Hawkins, they will be playing at home against Union Grove at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Grove will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1110th, while Hawkins is ranked 348th).
