The Brush Beetdiggers's six-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Saturday. They came out on top against Fort Morgan by a score of 39-27. That looming 39-27 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Brush yet this season.
Brush's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jocelynn Middlemist led the charge by scoring ten points. Middlemist also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Brisa Aguirre-Garcia, who scored nine points.
Despite the loss, Fort Morgan saw an underclassman step up: Ava Taylor scored four points along with 12 blocks and nine rebounds. Those 12 blocks set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Phillips, who scored four points.
Brush's victory bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Fort Morgan, they bumped their record down to 0-7 with that defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Brush and Sterling will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Sterling and Brush are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Fort Morgan, they will head out on the road to face off against Severance at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Severance has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
