The Brea Olinda Wildcats will face off against the Segerstrom Jaguars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Brea Olinda is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
Brea Olinda came out on top against Sonora on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Wildcats walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Raiders.
Nicholas Rodriguez tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nick Davis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Robinson, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, Segerstrom won against Garden Grove on Monday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Jaguars skirted past Estancia 6-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.
Segerstrom also got a great performance from Joseph Mendez as he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Mendez a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Zack Bretza, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Issac Acosta, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Brea Olinda's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-6. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Segerstrom, their win bumped their record up to 7-16.
Brea Olinda suffered a grim 10-1 defeat to Segerstrom when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
