The Northwest Area Rangers will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Sayre Redskins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Northwest Area has four straight wins, Sayre has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Northwest Area earned a 41-30 victory over Blue Ridge.
It was another big night for Karsyn Miner, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Hermanofski, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Sayre struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (Williamson had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Sayre was beaten by Williamson 60-20. Sayre was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-7.
Elizabeth Shaw was Sayre's leading scorer, having posted eight points.
Aubri Husted held things down on the boards with five rebounds.
Northwest Area's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Sayre, they bumped their record down to 0-8 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Wednesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Northwest Area have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 35.7% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Sayre, though, as they've only made 36.3% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
