West Warwick and Chariho are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2015, but likely not for long. The Wizards will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Chargers at 3:45 p.m. West Warwick is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Monday just wasn't the day for West Warwick's offense. They fell just short of Prout by a score of 1-0 on Monday. The Wizards have struggled against the Crusaders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
West Warwick saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Gallo, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Chariho faced East Greenwich in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Chargers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Avengers a 10-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Chargers, who have now won four matchups in a row.
Gavin Apice was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Ethan Elderkin was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Chariho kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.
Chariho's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for West Warwick, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West Warwick has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Chariho struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
West Warwick suffered a grim 19-3 defeat to Chariho when the teams last played back in May of 2022. Will the Wizards have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
