Hazelwood West is 8-2 against Mehlville since October of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Wildcats will head out to challenge the Panthers at 4:15 p.m. Hazelwood West is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
On Wednesday, Hazelwood West made easy work of Valley Park and carried off a 16-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Allisan Cafolla made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on DaRailly Dunlap, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Sharday Thomas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Hazelwood West was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Valley Park only posted a batting average of .111.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Mehlville was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They lost 19-1 to Cor Jesu Academy. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Hazelwood West's record now sits at 12-4. As for Mehlville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Hazelwood West took their victory against Mehlville in their previous matchup back in September by a conclusive 7-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
