Basketball Recap: Liberty Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ellee Statler and Jannah Davis

Liberty fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Frontier on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Frontier Titans by a score of 54-52. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while the Titans are ranked 213th).

Liberty's loss came despite strong showings from Jannah Davis and Ellee Statler. Davis went 9 for 18 en route to 23 points, while Statler almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. The game was Statler's fifth in a row with at least ten points.

Frontier was led to victory by Lailene Araniva and Sage Sebastian. Araniva posted eight points and six steals, while Sebastian had 15 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Araniva is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played.

Liberty dropped their record down to 7-9 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Frontier, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Liberty wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 50-39 loss against Centennial on the 16th. As for Frontier, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-30 win against Garces Memorial on the 16th.
