The Classical Academy Caimans will head out to square off against the Clairemont Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Wednesday, Classical Academy came up short against Eastlake and fell 9-4.
Classical Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevor Hoff, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Clairemont entered their tilt with Morse on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Tigers. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Chieftains, who until this matchup were averaging 3.31 runs allowed.
The team relied heavily on Diego Matsumoto, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Connor Trevino, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Clairemont kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.
Clairemont pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Classical Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Classical Academy hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Clairemont struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Classical Academy beat Clairemont 9-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Caimans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
