Chatfield is 8-2 against Lakewood since September of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Chargers will challenge the Tigers at 4:00 p.m.
Chatfield is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Valor Christian just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 5-0 to the Eagles. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Chargers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Isabella Leech spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Lakewood was able to grind out a solid victory over Ralston Valley on Saturday, taking the game 13-9. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Madison Reisbeck made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off 13 hits. Reisbeck was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lucy Retzer was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Addison Gallegos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Lakewood's record now sits at 14-4. As for Chatfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Chatfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Lakewood struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1.2 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Chatfield couldn't quite finish off Lakewood in their previous meeting on September 13th and fell 11-9. Can the Chargers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
