Baseball Recap: Lafayette Wins Going Away Against South Pontotoc

Lafayette never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the South Pontotoc Cougars with a sharp 9-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Commodores.

Tanner Harris made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other pitching news, Brett Williams looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Max Roberts, who went a perfect2-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Caleb Guest was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Pontotoc only posted an OBP of .125.

Lafayette's record now sits at 2-0. As for South Pontotoc, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette will welcome Water Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Pontotoc, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
