Fruita Monument is a perfect 10-0 against Durango since August of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Demons at 10:00 a.m. Fruita Monument's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Durango's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Fruita Monument is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Palisade just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 7-6.
Lauren Englehart was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Emma Lara was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Durango got the win against Eagle Valley on Saturday by a conclusive 16-2. The Demons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Jenna Glueck made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Avery Clair, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Marcela Jimenez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one run.
Durango kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
The win made it two in a row for Durango and bumps their season record up to 9-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Fruita Monument, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 15-4.
Fruita Monument beat Durango 5-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Demons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
