The Trinity Wolves entered their tilt with the Weed Cougars with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Trinity walked away with a 41-28 victory over the Cougars on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given Trinity's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 513th, while the Cougars are ranked 184th).
Trinity found their leader in underclassman Braelynn Nugent, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nugent has scored all season. Claire Cox was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alayja Oliver, who scored seven points along with two steals. Oliver is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Renaissance Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 17 rebounds.
Trinity's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Weed, their loss dropped their record down to 21-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trinity won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Crusaders at 12:00 p.m. on February 3rd. St. Bernard's is looking to tack on another W to their nine-game streak on the road. As for Weed, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Lions at 7:00 p.m.
