The Thousand Oaks Lancers suffered their biggest defeat since December 20, 2023 on Friday. They suffered a tough 71-49 defeat at the hands of Westlake. While losing is never fun, Thousand Oaks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 430th, while Westlake is ranked 103rd).
Thousand Oaks' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaelah Brown, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds, and Kira Jones who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. Jillian McGillivray was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Westlake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Mathis Dritz, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Dritz is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Devin Feiereisen, who scored 25 points along with two steals.
Thousand Oaks has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Westlake, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Thousand Oaks will take on Agoura at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Agoura comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Westlake won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Rolling Hills Prep at 4:30 p.m. on January 13th.
