The Foothill Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Canyon Comanches at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Foothill has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 3.
Last Tuesday, Foothill was beaten by the Golden Hawks 61-34. While losing is never fun, Foothill can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 690th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 123rd).
Despite their defeat, Foothill saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jay Perez, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds and six assists, was perhaps the best of all. Elize McAveney was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Even though they lost, Foothill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their 15th loss (out of 20 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, Canyon came into Tuesday's matchup having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They really took it to El Modena for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-15 win at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-8.
Foothill has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 11 of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-20 record this season. As for Canyon, they pushed their record up to 16-11 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Foothill took their win against the Comanches in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 by a conclusive 48-27. The rematch might be a little tougher for Foothill since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
