Monroe had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-10 to make it four. They fell just short of the Dougherty Trojans by a score of 14-13. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Ariya Lee and Glendalys Harvey did some serious damage despite the final result: Lee got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Harvey went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those doubles were Harvey's first of the season. Rayn Shorter was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Dougherty, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-10. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
On Dougherty's side, Jalexi Thomas made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and 11 unearned) runs off four hits. With that strong performance, Thomas is now averaging an impressive 5.3 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Dougherty got a massive performance out of Jazlyn Turner, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave Turner a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Sasha Hill, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs.
Monroe has already played their next game (against Turner County), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Dougherty, they will challenge Westover at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
