The La Jolla Vikings can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 34-24 win over El Camino. Given La Jolla's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 384th, while El Camino is ranked 1049th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
La Jolla was led to victory by Reagan Bennett and Drew Bennett. Bennett scored ten points along with six rebounds, while Bennett scored 15 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Bennett has scored at least 25% of La Jolla's points. Lucy Stadmiller was another key contributor, scoring two points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Despite the loss, El Camino saw an underclassman step up: Alana Hoskins scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The game was Hoskins' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Justine Stewart, who scored four points along with six rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, El Camino struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
La Jolla now has a winning record of 5-4. As for El Camino, they bumped their record down to 1-5 with that defeat, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.
La Jolla and Classical Academy will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for El Camino, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Valley Center at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Valley Center focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 last Friday.
