The Ralston Valley Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Rocky Mountain Lobos at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Ralston Valley came up short against Chatfield and fell 5-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Chargers: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Rocky Mountain ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 victory over Fossil Ridge. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Lobos have posted since September 5th.
Grace Brown made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and four unearned) runs off 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Kiana Villa was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Navaeh Winfrey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Rocky Mountain hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
The victory made it two in a row for Rocky Mountain and bumps their season record up to 10-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Ralston Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 6-15.
Ralston Valley took their victory against Rocky Mountain when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
