Make it 12 blowout wins for the Otay Ranch Mustangs this season. They put the hurt on Chula Vista with a sharp 57-34 victory on Friday. That's another feather in the cap for Otay Ranch, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
It was another big night for Mya Bermudez, who scored 14 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Daffron, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Chula Vista saw an underclassman step up: Malissa Mckoy almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Mckoy hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games.
Otay Ranch is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Chula Vista, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 11-15.
Otay Ranch will be playing at home against the Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Victory Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Mustangs in California (the Knights are ranked 193rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 582nd). As for Chula Vista, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on February 3rd.
