Cedar Hill (Texas) versus
DeSoto (Texas) rivalry is so good, recently inducted NFL Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson showed up Friday night and was part of the pregame festivities.
The two teams didn't disappoint, especially on defense, as host, seventh-ranked and defending state champion DeSoto (4-0) hung on for a 21-7 victory in the Battle of the Belt Line.
According to the
Dallas Morning News,
Kelan Walker rushed 13 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yarder in the final two minutes to put it away.
Senior 6-foot, 235-pound quarterback
Courtney Douglas, who watched transfer Shawn Robinson dominant the DeSoto offense last season, gave his team a 7-0 lead with 4:30 left in the second quarter on a 7-yard touchdown pass to
La'vontae Shenault.
Both defenses dominated from there, until Walker capped a long drive with a 4-yard touchdown run, giving DeSoto a 14-0 lead with 3:55 left in the third.
The way DeSoto dominated on defense, Cedar Hill (1-3) looked in trouble but it drove 68 yards in seven plays capped by a 15-yard touchdown run from
Quinshone Bright to close to 14-7. Bright set up the TD with a 14-yard run.
The game remained tight until Walker all but put it away with a 52-yard touchdown run with 1:57 remaining.
This was the 14th meeting between the two teams since 2004. Before Friday, DeSoto had won seven of the previous 13.
Cedar Hill hosts Duncanville next week, while DeSoto plays at MacArthur (Irving).

NFL Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson, a Texas native, was honored before Friday's DeSoto-Cedar Hill game.
