The El Capitan Vaqueros came tearing into Friday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They secured a 51-46 W over Granite Hills. That result was just more of the same for these two, as El Capitan also won the last time the pair played on January 12th.
El Capitan found their leader in underclassman Keira Heinricy, who scored 27 points along with two steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Heinricy has scored at least a third of El Capitan's points. Amaya Tone was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Granite Hills' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jasmine Yakob, who scored 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kerstena Tomika, who scored 12 points.
El Capitan is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 15-9 record this season. As for Granite Hills, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-9.
El Capitan will take on the Highlanders at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Helix is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Granite Hills, they will face off against the Monarchs at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Monte Vista has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
