The Escambia County Blue Devils waltzed into their match Thursday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 54-42 win over T.R. Miller. That's another feather in the cap for Escambia County, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Escambia County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cleo Bolar jr., who scored 25 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The game was Bolar jr.'s sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jovaughnta Henderson, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
T.R. Miller's loss came despite strong showings from Heath Kirkland and Jaylen Griffey. Kirkland scored 13 points along with seven rebounds, while Griffey scored ten points. Kirkland continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayki Askew, who scored six points.
Even though they lost, T.R. Miller were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Escambia County only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Escambia County's victory bumped their record up to 10-5. As for T.R. Miller, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Escambia County will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Hillcrest at 7:30 p.m. on January 15th. As for T.R. Miller, they will take on W.S. Neal at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (W.S. Neal is ranked 336th, while T.R. Miller is ranked 332nd).
