The Victory Christian Academy Knights came tearing into Monday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Olympian 44-26. Given Victory Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Eagles are ranked 389th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Victory Christian Academy to victory were Maya Stinson and Sophia Abella. Stinson scored eight points along with 20 rebounds, while Abella scored 17 points along with eight rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Abella has scored at least a third of Victory Christian Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylee Roy, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Asia Darcuiel, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That was a full 42.3% of Olympian's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Alyssa Agpaoa was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Olympian struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Victory Christian Academy racked up 11 assists.
Victory Christian Academy pushed their record up to 16-5 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. As for Olympian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.
Victory Christian Academy will be playing at home against the Aztecs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Olympian, they will head out on the road to challenge the Titans at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Eastlake focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 last Friday.
