Palos Verdes has gone a perfect 10-0 against North recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Sea Kings will venture away from home to challenge the Saxons at 3:30 p.m.
Palos Verdes came up short against Palm Desert on Thursday, falling 7-1. The Sea Kings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Palos Verdes saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kai Van Scoyoc, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North). They put the hurt on Hawthorne with a sharp 20-2 win on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Saxons sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Ethan Cannon looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because North is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 5-9 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kai Nagashima, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Eric Mirabal, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.2.
North's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Palos Verdes, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Palos Verdes has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Palos Verdes came out on top in a nail-biter against North when the teams last played back in February, sneaking past 5-4. Do the Sea Kings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Saxons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
