Baseball Recap: Portola Comes Up Short

If Portola was riding high fresh off their 16-0 takedown of Virginia City on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers lost 14-4 to the East Nicolaus Spartans on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Portola saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was JJ Ragan, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Ragan is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Gustavo Sigala was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Portola's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for East Nicolaus, they pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
