Smethport is 2-8 against Port Allegany since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Smethport Hubbers will head out on the road to face off against the Port Allegany Gators at 7:30 p.m. Smethport is hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Smethport scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They really took it to Galeton for the full four quarters, racking up a 52-12 victory at home. With Smethport ahead 36-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Smethport to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elizabeth Hungiville, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Hungiville is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Goodman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Port Allegany beat Oswayo Valley 54-46 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Port Allegany.
Kayleigha Dowell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 20 points along with three steals and three blocks. The contest was her third in a row with at least ten points. Ella Moses was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds.
Smethport's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-7. Port Allegany's record is now 6-2.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Smethport have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Port Allegany, though, as they've been averaging only 28.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Smethport came up short against Port Allegany when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 47-37. Can Smethport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
