The Cathedral Catholic Dons will head out on the road to face off against the St. Augustine Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Cathedral Catholic has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Monday, Cathedral Catholic didn't have quite enough to beat Santa Fe Christian and fell 6-5. That's two games in a row now that the Dons have lost by just one run.
Cathedral Catholic got a good showing from A.J. Trudell, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Trudell has allowed since back in March.
At the plate, Alex Harrington made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Priest, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, St. Augustine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-0 heartbreaker at the hands of La Jolla Country Day.
St. Augustine also got a good showing from Dylan Poukkula, who struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Poukkula has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
Cathedral Catholic's record is now 20-4. As for St. Augustine, their record now sits at 9-15.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Wednesday. Cathedral Catholic hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like St. Augustine struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Cathedral Catholic was able to grind out a solid victory over St. Augustine when the teams last played back in May of 2025, winning 7-4. Will the Dons repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
