In what's become a running theme this season, the Lake Central Indians gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 77-44 win over Hammond Morton at home. Given Lake Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Hammond Morton is ranked 184th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Vanessa Wimberly, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and two steals. Wimberly continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Nadia Clayton was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with three steals.
Lake Central pushed their record up to 19-4 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points per game. As for Hammond Morton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10-1 record this season.
Lake Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Washington Township at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Hopefully Washington Township focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Saturday. As for Hammond Morton, they will square off against Merrillville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Merrillville will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
