The Cornerstone Christian Crusaders will face off against the Schurr Spartans at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cornerstone Christian's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over Perris. Winning may never get old, but the Crusaders sure are getting used to it with their 11th in a row.
Steel Hoham made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI.
In other pitching news, Alec O'Sullivan looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in 13 consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Lucas Gomez-Creguer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of David Meinardus, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Cornerstone Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Perris only posted an OBP of .067.
Meanwhile, Schurr made easy work of San Jacinto last Monday and carried off an 11-5 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Like Cornerstone Christian, Schurr also got a great game from a two-way player: Logan Trevino. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Trevino is becoming a predictor of Schurr's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 6-2 (and 7-13 when he doesn't). Trevino was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Lu, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one run. Schurr is undefeated when Lu posts three or more RBI, but 10-15 otherwise. Joseph Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Cornerstone Christian pushed their record up to 23-5 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.4 runs over those games. As for Schurr, their victory bumped their record up to 13-15.
