In what's become a running theme this season, the Montgomery Aztecs gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They breezed by Chula Vista at home to the tune of 66-27. Given Montgomery's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 411th, while Chula Vista is ranked 922nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Montgomery got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Susanna Paliza out in front who scored 13 points along with five assists and five steals. Paliza hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Paula Zumstein was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, Chula Vista saw an underclassman step up: Malissa Mckoy dropped a double-double on ten points and 16 rebounds. Mckoy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.
The victory makes it two in a row for Montgomery and bumps their season record up to 13-11. As for Chula Vista, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-13.
Montgomery will head out on the road to face off against Otay Ranch at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Chula Vista, they will be playing at home against Victory Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Victory Christian Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
